Natural Stone
Natural stone has beautiful rich colors and patterns that just can’t be duplicated in a concrete paver. It is more expensive because it has to be hauled out of a quarry and cut to size. It can also take more time to install because of the natural variations in size and shape. Stone is durable and not affected as much by weather extremes because it was formed in the earth and has been subject to extremes for years. Stone can, however, get quite hot as it easily absorbs heat from the sun. This needs to be considered if used around pools or where children and pets play.
Concrete Pavers
Pavers are man-made products designed to look like real stone. Because they are manufactured, they are more uniform in size, texture, and color and therefore can be easier to manipulate. A paver walkway tends to stay cool in the sun and won’t burn your feet. Depending upon the severity of your winter, concrete pavers may be damaged by temperature extremes and ice and snow. Ask your hardscaping contractor which option is best for your locale and project.
